Point Eight Power designs and manufactures high quality type tested Switchgear for Medium-voltage applications including generator control, distribution, cogeneration, peak shaving and outdoor rated switchgear up to 27kV forANSI/IEEE C37.20.2 and C37.20.7 applications.
Point Eight Power’s Medium Voltage Metal Clad Arc Resistant Switchgear has been 3rd party tested by KEMA to meet IEEE C37.20.7 for internal arcing faults up to 63kA for 500msec. Our design features a patented side plenum between vertical sections which exhausts arc gas directly up and away from adjacent sections. Point Eight Power’s Switchgear meets the IEEE C37.20.7 accessibility type 2B which requires that the equipment provide arc resistance protection on the front, rear and sides even with designated LV compartments open. Per NFPA 70E, Electrical Safety in the Workplace, arc-resistant switchgear has a hazard risk category of zero with the breaker doors closed and latched.
Seismic qualification in switchgear design is more broadly applied today because of the amount of detectable earthquakes that happen worldwide annually and the significant damage that can occur. As a result, equipment is now evaluated by the ability to withstand earthquakes and meet functional requirements following seismic events.
Our Medium-Voltage Switchgear has been 3rd Party shake table tested to comply with the applicable standards ICC-ES AC 156 and IBC which refer to ASCE 7 as the performance benchmark for seismic criteria. The product was subjected to a Test Response Spectrum of SDS = 2.50g, ground level, 5% damping factor with a Zero Period Acceleration (ZPA) of 1.000g.
