Profile/History
Point Eight Power began in 1950 as Marine Offshore Electric Repair. Five years later, MOER added switchgear engineering and manufacturing. The company was acquired by Anixter Brothers Corporation in 1965 and renamed Anixter Power Systems.
Another change in ownership came in 1978 when Tom Reagan of Reagan Equipment Company bought Anixter Power Systems. Another name followed – Point Eight Power. Since then, Point Eight has built its client list to 1,248. In 1981, it relocated from New Orleans into a 31,000-square-foot facility in Belle Chasse, Louisiana. Twenty-six-thousand square feet were added in 1997. In 1999, Point Eight acquired waterfront facilities with a 13,000-square-foot covered work area and seven acres of open work area with direct waterfront access.
In 1994, the company received ISO 9001 certification and in 2003, ISO 9001:2000 certification. Point Eight continues to offer thinking that breaks through complacency and yet is always compliant.
Over the years, Point Eight Power has won numerous awards. Among them are the Supplier of the Year from the National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) in 2000; Cutler-Hammer's OEM Partner of the Year in 1996, 1997 and 1999; and recognition from Saudi Aramco in 1999/2000 for prompt delivery, outstanding team effort and performance contributing to our successful achievement of quality and schedule goals for the Hawiyah Gas Plant Project.
