Project Brief / Saudi Aramco  (downloadable PDF)

Equipment meeting exact specifications supplied to an overseas location.

Thoroughly understanding the client’s needs.

The Point Eight team rises to every challenge. Still, there are some challenges that are more daunting than others.

Take the Saudi Aramco’s Hawiyah gas-processing facility in Saudi Arabia. As Rohit Duggal, project manager for this particular job, said, “Aramco is a very demanding customer. The job specifications and requirements as well as the location of the equipment made this job and the various management responsibilities associated with it very challenging.”

One American company advertises "We don’t make this diving board, we make it stronger.” Similarly, Point Eight Power provides a crucial piece in the controls and distribution of an electrical system, not the whole system.

The overall size of the job was evident by the number of LSTK contractors involved. Technip awarded the electrical scope of this job to Cutler-Hammer. Because of equipment complexity and the detailed project-management requirements revolving around scheduling and budget, Cutler-Hammer subcontracted with Point Eight to supply the distribution and generator control switchgear, as well as the bus duct for the processing plant. Point Eight was awarded contracts by Technip and JGC because Saudi Aramco insisted on identical switchgear at the Hawiyah Gas Plant facility.

Point Eight supplied more than 100 vertical sections of switchgear and motor-control centers comprised of 13.8KV distribution and generator-control switchgear, 4.16KV distribution and generator control switchgear and motor-control centers as well as bus duct for incoming line connections. More than 76,000 man-hours were expended over a a year for the project. Equipment testing was performed at Point Eight’s Louisiana facility and witnessed by a third-party testing firm.
